Use of graphics on Web pages

Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes web page designers is, abuse of graphics on Web pages. The designers are so excited about using new technologies they tend to “see what we can do for you” rather than the functionality of a web page.

Graphics on a Web page must perform a function. If the function is just a graphic “to be cool, you are unnecessarily increasing the download time for your Web pages.” Cool “ultimately cost more money and can cause you to lose potential customers.

The following is a summary of the different types of graphics that will be accepted on a web page:

Navigation buttons – used to navigate your site visitors. Properly designed, this keyboard much easier to read and only text links.

All graphics on your site must match the color, font, and special effects. For example, the text in all the navigation buttons use the same font and have the same impact on them (like a shadow).
