31 Aug 2010I was asked: “How do I design a successful website?”
I have often respond: “You know, the best way to ruin a new site design?” What is the answer, perhaps: “The lack of adequate planning to guess in advance.”
To make things different. In programming, it is an old saying: “The sooner your code, the longer it lasts until the end.”
Plan your site before you build, it is essential. To borrow a technique from the film industry, I recommend you create a storyboard, which is a type of graph-design your new website. You do not need an accomplished artist to draw your idea, but it is important to create it on paper first.
On each sheet of paper, the goal is to make room for a picture on, plus have the space below to write information. As you can imagine, the first page is to start your home (or home page), which usually have as much information as the site of the visit includes the people before they enter your site and that the people on your site go to encounter more information (in steps), how they are derived.
In general, the homepage links to 5-15 pages below, we refer to level 2. Each of these pages links to other pages 5-15, the level could be third
If you use all these pages, you’ll end up with a comprehensive website design, at least 226 pages (including the homepage).
It was during this process, which caused all kinds of problems. But it is much easier to solve on paper than in the middle of coding, rather than when you are finished … If you do not, you may encounter a big problem on the way that a “back to the drawing board” re-design would require the entire site.
Some things, works on paper will give you a much better idea of how things work and how to solve problems. And if you have knowledgeable friends, get a second opinion. Once you finished the process on paper, and you or your web designer happy with the results you are willing to translate it into code.
